I finally got a little time to work on the boat trailer I recently bought to replace my rusted out trailer
I had put my ute in for a service and had ridden my bike back to home.
After a few re-boxing in of the air-conditioners around the house (30 year old wood trim needed replacing) - I started working on the trailer despite it sitting in the sun and needing a rest after my bike ride
(so unfit!)
Originally only needed to swap over a jockey wheel from old trailer - too easy!
And totally redo the electrics - that is down the priority order with a light board from the old trailer available
So overall very happy with my purchase - especially the price! Saved a thousand plus on what I had budgeted for!
But when picking it up - it was my poor choice of where to drive that had me bog the trailer in the guy's front yard
(two weeks of rain made every thing very wet - my excuse)
You see, I was driving the trailer he was selling with his boat on it, to Manton Dam to swap over the boat to his new trailer and drive mine home - too easy
So very embarrassing - !!!!!
We tried a bit of 4x4 brute force but the mud hid a solid object that bent a few things
Like the right leaf spring severely bent out of shape and the supports for several roller rockers and skids - bugger
Have unbolted the cross piece with all the damage and will get a aluminium guy to see about a repair
I striped all the other steel bolts off that I could find and greased them up
Had to replace several nuts and a few U bolts that were either twisted or due to seized nuts that I had to use a grinder to get off
This will give me a good base line of rusted parts removed, replaced, and greased up
Got a gift voucher in my wallet (thanks Peter!) for a while now from Voyager trailers that I can use to replace the destroyed leaf spring
So once that is acquired and the repair to crossbeam finished - I can get it all back together and adjust skids and rollers to suit my boat rather than the 5.2 tinnie of the previous guy
So things are happening but the following picture got in the way of more trailer repair progress
Two loads of pangola grass runners (only one them shown above - one on Wednesday and one will be done on Thursday)
The grass runners needed to be shaken to thin it out and spread over the areas we want grass for the horsesThen once I get it all out over the two days (still hoping for rain!) - Thursday afternoon I have a guy with a tractor and plow the runners into the moist soil
The thinning and spreading of the runners is back breaking and exhausting work in the heat and humidity we currently have here in Darwin - if I had stopped during the day I probably wouldn't have started again - as a consequence I was concentrating so hard on keeping going I even forgot to have lunch!
(But I am really racking up the brownie points with all the rural block work - despite the money I am spending on the trailer! whaaahooo! couldn't be better really)
Further inhibiting work on the trailer is that this Friday is orientation day for my new teaching job at a new school.
So have no idea when I can next work on trailer - or the crab flies I have been messing with
Let alone go fly fishing!
Life is so busy!! and school holidays are already over without me fly fishing once!
What is happening - this has to change!
Starting off this new year very poorly - fly fishing wise! Let's hope that significantly changes!
